Saving Alabama Teens

SALTEENS is a Safe Driving         Initiative sponsored by ALSITE.

ALSITE is the Alabama Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers.

SALTEENS Objectives:
  • Reduce injuries/fatalities in Alabama caused by distracted teen drivers.
  • Educate Alabama teens, parents, and teachers about driving hazards.
  • Develop and promote safe driving educational materials for distribution in Alabama communities.

Alabama Teens and Driving Safety - Tips for Teens
  • Always wear your seatbelt and require all passengers to buckle up.
  • Adjust you seat and mirrors for clear visibility before starting the vehicle.
  • Limit the number of passengers in your vehicle based on your driving experience and the number of working seatbelts.

Alabama Teens and Driving Safety - Tips for Parents
  • Be an example of a safe and courteous driver (i.e. avoid speeding, do not use cell phone while driving).
  • Discuss safe driving habits with your teen.
  • Enroll your teen in a driver’s education course.

  • Be an example of a safe and courteous driver (i.e. avoid speeding, do not use cell phone while driving).
  • Organize activities to limit the number of teens traveling together in a car.
  • If activities require multiple cars, have an adult drive the lead car to control speed.
