  • SHA Stakeholders: These are your pages. The goal of SafeHomeAlabama.gov is to provide the most comprehensive view possible of traffic safety efforts in and plans for the state of Alabama. In order for this to take place it is essential that the all Stakeholders get involved and provide a view of their efforts.

  • What is an SHA Stakeholder as opposed to a user of the SHA site? In this context we are defining SHA Stakeholders to be (1) those who are engaged in some aspect of traffic safety either professionally or as advocates as part of some organized effort and (2) those who wish to participate directly in on-line updating of the SHA site. Any member of the traffic safety community can submit information to become part of the SHA site. However, SHA Stakeholders have the additional capability to create their own pages and add information to them on an ongoing basis.

In order to become a Stakeholder it will be necessary for you to obtain a username and password. This is necessary in order to assure that the material on SHA is maintained at the highest quality, and to assure that there will not be multiple Stakeholders from any given subject area within an agency. Multiple Stakeholders from a given agency will be permissible, but mutual assurances must be given that their efforts are unified and coordinated.

If you are interested in participating as a stakeholder, here is how it works:
    1. Determine a short (10 character maximum) label and a longer (30 word maximium) description for your page; this will be required as part of the registration process, so please give it some thought up front.
    2. Obtain a userid and password by e-mailing Kerri Keith: kkeith@cs.ua.edu.
    3. Complete the form that you will be sent in order to document your contact information and to become part of the SHS Stakeholder e-mail distribution list. This list will be used to inform you of updates to the SHS stakeholder capabilities, rules or any other information required. As part of the process, you will agree to the charter set of rules. E-mail the form back to Kerri Keith.
    4. Once you are registered, a button will appear on the Stakeholder's page that will give users access to your web site. It will initially be stubbed out as being Under Construction. Once you begin developing it, it will have your information content on it.
    5. The user id and password will be necessary for you to get into and edit your page.
    6. Read and observe the rules and capabilities of the editor. Some of the capabilities of the editor are provided below.
Once you get into your target page, you will automatically be in an editor. This editor has the following capabilities:
    • Quite similar to MS Word, you may add text, copy in text from a clipboard, and reference documents.
    • Add and delete documents from a document list. This list will be kept in your own view of a database of such documents. Users will not be able to see this list, they will only be able to see your references to these documents. The specific procedure for adding a "clickable" document label to your page will be given in more detailed once the editor is fully available.
    • Describe your documents. Have a "new documents" section where you list new documents and put a short blurb on each so that users can easily access them.
    • Set up announcements section. Put this at the top of your page - use larger fonts to focus on the announcements that you wish to make - keep these announcements current - old obsolete and past events will discourage users from reading your page.
In the event that you wish to make some global announcement to all SHA users, send it to Kerri Keith, and she will evaluate it to assure that it meets the announcement rules, and then will post it under the "hot issues" section of the home page. This can include a direct link to your Stakeholder page. Typically routine (e.g., monthly) meetings will not be announced in this way, but should be announced on the Stakeholder pages. Only special events or breaking news should be submitted for front page consideration.
