“I think the profile has gotten higher and higher and the feelings of the public are much higher than it used to be,” said Mike Lee, chairman of the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce’s “Build the Bridge” Coalition about the need for an $850 million bridge over the Mobile River and accompanying expansion of the Interstate 10 Bayway.

The bridge, currently in its preliminary design phase, is considered the preeminent infrastructure project for the region by local and state officials. At this point, the biggest obstacle is funding.

But opportunity seems to beckon, as the incoming Trump administration talks of a $1 trillion program to rebuild highways, tunnels, bridges and airports.
