Driving with TACT: Troopers target aggressive driving on Alabama highways
The Alabama Department of Public Safety, along with the Alabama Trucking Association, are participating in the “Ticketing Aggressive Cars and Trucks” campaign to reduce aggressive driving between passenger and large commercial vehicles.
Among the violations that are the main focus of the ongoing program are following too closely, improper lane use, drivers cutting off others, driving under the influence, failure to signal and speeding — the latter of which is a factor in the majority of Alabama fatal crashes, Trooper Curtis Summerville said.
“We’re trying to save lives and change behavior,” Summerville said. “If we don’t write a single ticket, then that’s perfectly OK with us because we’ve changed behavior — we’ve changed the way people drive and that’s what we’re trying to do.”
