Passenger vehicle driver handheld cell phone use decreased from 3.3 percent in 2016 to 2.9 percent in 2017 (Figure 1), a statistically significant decrease. The percentage of drivers speaking with visible headsets while driving decreased from 0.5 percent in 2016 to 0.4 percent in 2017 (Figure 1); this was not a statistically significant decrease. Drivers’ visible manipulation of handheld devices decreased from 2.1 percent in 2016 to 2.0 percent in 2017 (Figure 1); this was not a statistically significant decrease.
