Pedestrian Traffic Fatalities by State
Each year, State Highway Safety Offices (SHSOs) in all U.S. states and the District of Columbia (D.C.) provide preliminary pedestrian fatality data for the prior calendar year to the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA). Puerto Rico began providing some fatality data beginning with this report. SHSOs are state-level agencies that leverage federal grants to implement safety programs that address the behavioral choices that all road users make, such as whether to drink and drive, exceed posted speed limits or buckle up. Most SHSOs are also the agencies that aggregate statewide crash data.
