In 2018 there were 6,907 people 65 and older killed in traffic crashes in the United States, 19 percent of all traffic fatalities. Between 2017 and 2018 there was a 1-percent increase in the number of 65 and older killed in traffic crashes.  For the purpose of this fact sheet “older” drivers, occupants and nonoccupants refers to age 65 and above.
